Find answers to common questions about applying through ApplyAlberta
ApplyAlberta is a secure online application system that allows students to apply to one or more of Alberta's public colleges, universities, and technical institutes through a common starting point, and to authorize the transfer of their Alberta high school or post-secondary transcripts.
- Makes it easy for students to apply to one or more post-secondary institutions. The first time students use ApplyAlberta they will create a profile with their personal and academic history. This information is filled in automatically on each of the Alberta post-secondary applications they complete.
- Facilitates the transfer of academic transcripts. Within ApplyAlberta, students authorize institution(s) to request the transfer of their Alberta Education high school and/or post-secondary transcripts. Students will not be charged a fee for transcripts transferred through ApplyAlberta.
- Speeds up the application process. The ability to apply to multiple institutions without having to re-enter basic information and to authorize transcript transfers will save students time.
When you use ApplyAlberta, you will follow a series of steps to apply for admission to participating institutions:
- You will create a secure logon account and your personal information will be protected by the Government of Alberta's secure identity system
- ApplyAlberta uses the Alberta Student Number (ASN) to authenticate an applicant's identity. If you have applied to, or attended, an Alberta school or post-secondary institution the system will try to find your Alberta Student Number (ASN).
- If you do not have an ASN, the system will issue one to you. New ASNs are not linked to any other information such as previous attendance records or Alberta high school transcripts.
- During the application process, you will authorize post-secondary institution(s) to obtain your Alberta high school transcripts or your post-secondary transcripts from participating institutions that are using the ApplyAlberta system.
- You will fill out a basic personal and academic profile containing key information such as your name, birth date, address, contact information, citizenship, and academic history.
- Once you select an institution, you will then complete the institution-specific part of the application such as term and program.
- You will have to pay the institution's application fee and submit your application.
- The institution will then process your application and deal directly with you.
- You can return to ApplyAlberta at any time to apply to additional institutions.
The ApplyAlberta website (www.applyalberta.ca) lists the institutions using the application system. Check the homepage or the list of Participating Institutions.

Anyone applying to attend one of Alberta's public post-secondary institutions including: high school students, adult learners, current post-secondary continuing students, out-of-province students, international students, and students who are home-schooled.
First, you should check the list of Participating Institutions to make sure the institution you want to attend is using ApplyAlberta. If not, apply directly via the institution's website.
The ApplyAlberta system will allow you to create a profile with your personal information and academic history. You may want to have the following information handy before you start:
- your Alberta Student Number (ASN) (if you already have one)
- names of all the high schools and post-secondary institutions you attended
- high school courses and the marks you received (currently-enrolled Canadian students)
- a credit card to pay any institution application fees
The ASN is a unique number assigned to any individual who has either applied to, or attended, any of the following in Alberta:
- kindergarten
- elementary school
- junior high school
- high school
- college
- technical institute
- university
Everyone using the ApplyAlberta application system requires an Alberta Student Number (ASN).
- If you have an ASN the system will try to find it. The system uses your ASN to authenticate your identity and to retrieve your transcripts.
- If you don't, the system will assign one to you. Note: New ASNs are not linked to any other information such as previous attendance records or Alberta high school transcripts.
You can either start your application on an institution's website, or on the ApplyAlberta website.
The ApplyAlberta application and transcript transfer system is integrated with each institution's own application system. You will find at different points in the application process that you are on an institution's site, a Government of Alberta site, and the ApplyAlberta web application. You will need to contact the institution to which you submitted your application to discuss a refund. You should also check the institution's website to view their policy on refunds.
You can use your ApplyAlberta secure login account at any time to apply to additional participating institutions. Your personal information and academic history will be filled in automatically on these applications.
You will need to choose an institution from the 'Select Institution' list, fill in the institution-specific part of the application such as term and program, pay the institution's application fee, and submit the application.

No. There are some transcripts that you will need to obtain yourself. Once you submit your completed application, the institution will let you know which transcripts they are able to obtain on your behalf.
